Simply Beautiful

Simply Beautiful Yellow Flower

The word “simple” or the idea of simplicity can often be thought of as uninteresting, bland, plain, regular and blah.  But I believe with all of my heart that simplicity is the epitome of beauty.  Instead of the boring, plain, and generic reputation that the word “simple” can carry, my eyes or my mind tend to see “simple” as uncomplicated, easy, restful, and refreshing, and can often reveal the most extravagant, delightful, and exciting things.

Simplicity in its purest form takes anything from ordinary to extraordinary.  How?  It’s simple really!  Like the fact that it only takes one flower stem to evoke a smile, and that smile is a treasure to behold.  It’s the act of engaging our hearts, minds, and eyes in looking for, exploring, discovering, and truly seeing the beauty that emerges from the simplest of things that are all around us:

  • A smile

  • A hug

  • A soft cotton towel

  • A warm blanket

  • A piece of paper with the written words “thank you”

  • Your name handwritten on a place card at a dinner party

  • White plates on a dinner table

  • Homemade whipped cream

  • The flicker of a candle burning

  • The smell of coffee brewing or bread toasting or butter melting

  • A piece of really good chocolate

  • A single flower bloom

  • A sprig of rosemary tied to a cotton tea towel ready to be gifted

As you can tell, I tend to notice the simple beauty that comes in the form of food, flowers, home, and people - all of my favorite things! And, my hope is to always inspire others as well as myself to look for and see the simple beauty that is all around us waiting to be discovered.  We just have to be willing to open our eyes and hearts to see it and then to embrace and enjoy it.  When we do this, then the things that are simple, ordinary, or plain become simply beautiful!

May you find, embrace, and enjoy the simply beautiful things and moments that surround you every day!
Michele
